Looking for a holistic education? Turn to Kaplan like Stephen Sanjay Das did. The 23-year-old had enrolled in Kaplan’s Diploma in Commerce (General Studies) after his studies at an international boarding school.

He said: “I was looking for an institution that offered a reputable diploma programme — one that could meet my schedule and allow me to gain a competitive edge among my peers.”

Mr Das enjoyed his time at Kaplan so much that he continued with the institution to pursue a degree in Human Resource Management, awarded by the University College Dublin (UCD), UK.

“Kaplan has students from many different nationalities. When I start work eventually, I would know how to work with people of different cultures. The opportunity to meet different people is also why I decided to join Kaplan’s student council. It equips me with the skills to manage events for the community,” he said.

Through networking, Mr Das landed himself an internship at the Irish Chamber of Commerce Singapore (ICCS). His role involved helping to organise events, and source for sponsors and vendors. The experience opened his eyes to various aspects of business too, like entrepreneurship.

Mr Das is glad he could apply what he learnt at school during his internship. He said: “My marketing knowledge was useful when I had to handle the ICCS’s social media accounts and websites. My skills in accounting also came in handy when I had to manage the membership database.”

The internship has also improved his communication skills, and taught him the importance of teamwork. One of the key things that he picked up was having a more global mindset. “I had the opportunity to network with professionals from overseas, which gives me a better idea on how to work with diverse people,” he said.
