The Foundation Exams provide students with non-accounting academic backgrounds a route to the CPA Program®. Students who embark on the Foundation Exams and subsequently to the CPA Program® are on what we refer as the “Non-Accounting Pathway”.
The Non-Accounting Pathway is ideal for:
- Graduates from non-accounting related programmes who wish to forge a career in accounting and finance
- Working professionals of a non-accounting industry who wish to make a career switch into accountancy and finance
The Foundation Exams cover the core knowledge you require in order to commence the CPA Program®.
Exemptions may apply subject to the assessment from CPA Australia of your application.
Modules:
Foundations of Accounting | This foundation level unit covers the knowledge of fundamental accounting concepts for different types of business entities, including the purpose of accounting, the users of accounting information and an introduction to recording transactional accounting data in the double entry bookkeeping system. It also covers the acquisition and disposal of assets and the production of financial statements. |
Economics and Markets | This exam covers economics and quantitative methods. In economics, key microeconomics concepts of demand and supply, elasticity, productivity, market structures, and market failure are covered. It also covers macroeconomic concepts of income distribution and the structure of the financial economy including the calculation of key national economic measures. In quantitative methods, key tools of statistical analysis are covered, such as descriptive statistics, frequency distributions and probability, hypothesis testing, simple linear regression and correlation. |
Fundamentals of Business Law | This exam covers your general legal knowledge relating to the business environment, a basic knowledge of the law of contracts, and an understanding of the responsibilities and risks that arise in business, with particular regard to the law relating to corporate entities. |
Business Finance | This unit covers the understanding of business finance and treasury function including the fundamental concepts of capital, investment, funding and risk assessment and management. It also covers the analysis and management of an entity’s financial position, portfolio management, and short and long term financial management. |
Financial Accounting and Reporting |
This exam covers an understanding of the format and function of financial statements, including analysis and interpretation of financial statements. It also includes the production of financial statements for consolidated company groups, and foreign currency translation. |
Management Accounting | This exam covers an understanding of developments in management accounting and the tools management accountants use to cost products and services, and to develop and manage budgets. It also covers performance management and control; planning and assessment of project alternatives; and an understanding of the nature, functions, structures and operations of management. |
Upon the successful completion of the foundation exams, you will become an Associate member and are now eligible to commence the CPA Program®.
There are 2 semesters in a year – March and September.

International students who enrol for Kaplan Learning Institute (KLI) course packages will enjoy “Green Lane” processing of student pass applications. “Green Lane” means reduced processing time, waiver of security deposit, waiver of interview for PRC students and the student pass will be valid for the full duration of the course. Fee Protection Scheme (FPS)
KLI has put in place requirements which include Fee Protection Scheme (FPS) regulated by the Committee for Private Education(CPE). For more information, please visit www.cpe.gov.sg
FPS is applicable to ALL students (regardless of nationality and the type of passes, i.e. dependent’s pass, student’s pass, work permit etc). It is mandatory for all students to apply for FPS and sign a student contract when they enrol for courses with any Private Education Institution (PEI) with EduTrust Certification.
For international students wish to opt-in for medical insurance, their Insurance Premium will be $46.05(inclusive of 7% GST). CPE has mandated that students who opt out must produce their medical insurance policy for verification by the PEI.
