I decided to further my education with Murdoch University as the University offers a competitive Degree recognised by relevant local and Australian authorities, and because the Degree programme can be completed in my desired time frame. The flexibility of the Degree programme made it more convenient as well.

By studying two disciplines in my Double Major programme, I am making full use of the learning path. You will not only get fresh insights into the disciplines, but also become more marketable to future employers. Having a variety of skill sets under your belt increases the possibilities of finding one’s desired employment, proving to potential employers that you are eager to learn. The Degree would help to pave the way for promotion at work as well.

With the academic support I received throughout each semester, I was able to arrange my classes such that they do not conflict with one another. The convenience of having online classes together with assistance from the lecturers, who are positive and nurturing, help to make the learning journey easier and a joy.

I would recommend Murdoch University as their Degrees are recognised. Additionally, lecturers are friendly, student support is always available, and most importantly, the flexible class schedules are communicated ahead, so that you can organise your time accordingly.

Through my research on the various schools, I found Murdoch University to be a reputable one. A recognised Degree is important to me, as it would increase my chances of gaining employment.

The modules on Social Bases of Behaviour, and Individual Differences and Performance taught me how society works. I learned how every one of us is different but how we can still work together despite this – for instance, grouping certain individuals based on their strengths and weaknesses to create a complete team.

The Degree programme made me aware of how my working style compares to that of other people, and how I can work better with them by being understanding. At the same time, the programme made me more aware of others’ feelings and how people perceive each other.

I also had the fortune of having lecturers who are passionate about teaching and imparting their knowledge to us. For instance, they brought up real-life examples based on their experiences when going through certain topics, to make lessons interesting and to help us understand things better.

They helped us when we were in doubt, be it with the assignments or lessons. Constructive feedback was given so that we knew our own strengths and areas for improvement. I am very thankful for the lecturers that helped me along the way and make it to graduation.

Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Criminology (Double Major)
Murdoch University Student (2021)

I chose Murdoch University as it offers an attractive selection of Double Majors. and decided to pursue one instead of a single major Degree as I wanted to take a more interdisciplinary approach to education. After working for more than a decade, I have realised that a sophisticated mind aids in success.

I believe that Criminology would complement Psychology well by providing more perspectives and deepening my understanding of both. Most importantly, the dual specialisation would provide me with more diverse career options in the future.

I would definitely recommend Murdoch to others! I feel very supported and equipped, as the University not only automates most learning processes effectively, but provides extra lessons, help and resources. Above all, they always provide us with a person of contact in case we need assistance. By ensuring such open communication, I feel more assured that I do not have to go through my programme alone.

I recommend a double major Degree for those who can cope with it. The world is a complex web of relationships, and a multidisciplinary approach to studies will equip one better for the challenges ahead.

Top 2% Vice Chancellor’s Commendation for Academic Excellence Awards 2021 Recipient

I chose Murdoch University as the school offers an accredited programme in my chosen field, and ensures that the teaching and programme quality are held to the same standards as that of the university campus in Australia.

In my job, I conduct therapy sessions for patients, with the aim of improving their quality of life, including their activities of daily living (ADL), well-being, emotional regulation, and social and vocational skills.

My Degree programme was comprehensive in the teaching of human development and behaviour. The teachers always provided constructive feedback and guidance for my learning and development. Additionally, as most of the teachers have substantial work experience and are practising professionals in their fields, I was able to learn from them how to apply the theories and knowledge in the real-world setting.

Upon achieving my Degree, I have more opportunities to take on advanced responsibilities in a higher role.

Additionally, the programme largely comprised of self-directed learning with a flexible study plan, where a student has the flexibility of enrolling in a minimum of one to a maximum of four units per trimester. This meant that I could adjust my study load each trimester, in accordance with my work and family commitments.

Top 2% Vice Chancellor’s Commendation for Academic Excellence Awards 2020 Recipient

I decided on Murdoch University primarily because they offer a Double Major Degree programme in Psychology and Criminology. I had also heard that this University is a great place to pursue a Degree.

Choosing to pursue two majors helps one gain more knowledge and expands one’s knowledge in the selected majors. My interest in the two majors was what drove me to take a Double Major programme.

Furthermore, I feel that Psychology and Criminology complement each other, as each specialisation is important in understanding certain aspects of the other.

The lecturers are great, as they are very helpful when it comes to our learning, and more than willing to answer our questions and guide us along in our studies. When we ask them questions, they respond in an efficient manner too.

This year, receiving the University’s Top 2% Vice Chancellor’s Commendation for Academic Excellence Award showed me that hard work and perseverance indeed pay off. I want to continue striving to achieve the best, and I am happy that Murdoch recognised my efforts.

I would recommend Murdoch to others, because it’s one of the best universities that allows you to pursue your interests and to make progress in the programmes with ease.

Previously, I was a national netball player who represented Singapore in two SEA Games, winning gold and silver; four Asian Netball Championships, winning two golds and one silver; one Netball World Cup and eight Nations Cup events.

My love for the sport has turned into my long-term ambition to teach at a local or international school.

In order to achieve this goal, I chose to pursue a Degree in Sports and Exercise Science with the University of Essex to enhance my skills, knowledge and competency as an educator. As a former full-time national netball player with Netball Singapore from 2010 until I retired in 2020, I also wanted to gain a deeper understanding about other sports.

The schedule at the University of Essex is great for the people who work, and the online learning class experience is good as it helps me save time travelling from work to school. The teaching is carried out step-by-step and a summary video is available for us to review after class.

I believe attaining this Degree will provide me with more options for my future career in sports performance.

Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Sports and Exercise Science (Top-up)
University of Essex Student (2021)

I decided to study with the University of Essex (UOE) as it is an established school in the UK and the modules are excellent for the working world, as they are geared toward applied learning. Moreover, UOE provides direct honours for its Sports and Exercise Science Degree programme.

The reason why I chose Sports Science as a major is because it is my dream to be a Sports Science graduate. I have progressed from attaining a Nitec in Fitness Training to Higher Nitec in Sport Management, and from a Diploma in Sports Science and Management holder to a Bachelor’s Degree student.

Having studied sports, health and fitness for five years, I enjoy this industry thoroughly and love gaining as much knowledge as I can, especially in sports performance.

The online learning class experience is straightforward and allows for flexibility during this pandemic. The Kaplan learning management system is simple and easy to use, as I can extract my notes from it and download or print them for offline use.

The UOE timetable is also easy and straight forward. As classes are in the evening, I can have my athletics training sessions in the morning and go to work in the afternoon.

Ultimately, I would like to pursue sports performance as a career and perhaps progress to postgraduate studies to gain more and specialised knowledge. My goal is to work with athletes and the general population, and to improve their health through better nutrition, sleep and exercise.

Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Guidance and Counselling (Top-up)
Northumbria University Student (2021)

I had worked full-time at the Thye Hua Kwan Moral Charities Senior Activity Centre for three years and recently started working as a Programmes Executive at YWCA. Here, I aim to equip young women and mothers from marginalised backgrounds with work skills to improve their lives through employability.

I find it meaningful to work with the elderly and devise interventions to help with their gradual memory impairment and physical limitations. I am also passionate about reaching out to people in difficult situations and making a difference in their lives.

These reasons motivated me to pursue my education with Kaplan, first with a Foundation Diploma, followed by the Diploma in Psychology. This then gave me exemptions to pursue my Bachelor’s Degree with Northumbria University, where I chose to study the Bachelor of Arts in Guidance and Counselling.

The Degree is well-suited to my goal of becoming an asset to organisations that strive to improve the welfare of those in need. Northumbria University is well-recognised for its outstanding teaching, so I feel confident about achieving my Degree here. The lecturers, who are experts in their respective professional fields, also share their experiences and knowledge with us.

The programme may serve as a stepping-stone for those who aspire to expand their career opportunities in the sector and work with people from diverse backgrounds. All the modules covered have been comprehensive and applicable to my job scope.

After I have completed the programme, I plan to further my education with a Master’s Degree in order to be empowered to care for and understand how to work with people from diverse backgrounds.
